Rongai

The Dry-Side Route

5 - 6 days; Distance 73 km

Rongai Route is quite unique because it approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, starting near the Kenyan border. This means it’s less traveled and tends to be quieter compared to other routes. The landscape is diverse, ranging from lush rainforest to moorland and alpine desert. The route also has a high success rate for summit completion because of its gradual ascent, which helps with acclimatization. Another cool aspect is that it offers incredible views of the Kenyan plains and the mountain’s northern slopes. Typically, the Rongai Route is done in about 6 to 7 days. The most common itinerary is 6 days, which allows for proper acclimatization and a higher summit success rate. However, some people do it in 5 days.
